Taxes are actually due January 1st following the year for which the taxes were levied. Mobile Homes are due January 1st in the same year as the taxes are levied. A 5% discount is allowed for Real Estate and Mobile Homes that are paid in full by February 15. The discount is not allowed on special assessments. If you pay in installments the 1st half of taxes plus special assessments are due by March 1st and the second half by October 15. To receive the discount or avoid a penalty envelopes must be postmarked by the due date to be considered paid on time.
According to the ND Century Code, the County is required to mail the tax statements no later than December 26, however we generally
try to mail the statements by the second week in December. Failure of an owner to receive a statement will not relieve that owner of liability, nor extend the discount privilege past the February fifteenth deadline. If you do not receive a statement please call as soon as possible and we will send a new one out. We also send a courtesy notice to anyone with unpaid taxes in September as a reminder and November 1st we send out a tax lien notice to anyone who hasn't paid their current year taxes and Special Assessment.
